Warren business owner captures photo while fishing during tornado warning

Local News

As the weather turned rough Tuesday morning, there was a large crowd of people fishing around Mosquito Lake. At least one of them took a picture.

It started out as a nice morning — the temperature was around 60 degrees. Then out of nowhere, the weather turned bad and there was a tornado in the sky.

Aaron Chine, owner of the Box Gallery tattoo shop in downtown Warren, was one of the people out fishing when the tornado appeared over Mosquito Lake. Everyone was surprised, including Chine.

“Just doing a little extreme tornado crappie fishing,” he said. “It was just like it is right now when we first got here, pretty nice. And then it got real dark over here and then it just started rolling that way, and once it got above this treeline here, it just turned into a big spout and started twirling, and everybody started freaking out and sirens started going off and we just started taking pictures.”

After the tornado went over the lake, Chine lost track of it.

According to the National Weather Service, it dissipated over Cortland.

After the tornado passed, Chine, his friends and most everyone else on the dock and shoreline went back to fishing again.
