A South Carolina real estate business, accused of using fraudulent contracts in residential real estate deals in Youngstown, is now asking a federal judge to intervene in a local lawsuit.

Executives of Vision Property Management have been accused of swindling people into purchasing homes in the city that are essentially uninhabitable.

The case had initially been filed in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

It might be moved to federal court because of allegations of organized crime — or the RICO statute, as it’s known — which is a federal law and could be tried in federal court.

Legal aid attorney Steven McGarrity says the move shows the company takes the accusations seriously.

A hearing set for Thursday morning before a local magistrate was postponed while both sides wait to see if the case will ultimately be moved.
