UPDATE: Police identify man walking along Youngstown street fatally hit by bullet

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Youngstown police are investigating a homicide that happened on the north side of the city Thursday night.

They say the man killed was identified as James Edward Thomas.

Police were called about 9:15 p.m. to the area of Wirt Boulevard and Crandall Avenue on reports of a shooting.

When officers got there, they found Thomas lying on the sidewalk. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Another man told police that he and the victim were walking down the street from a trip to a local store when they heard gunshots, and Thomas stumbled and fell.

Police don’t know where the shot was fired from.

Police and the coroner’s office are investigating.
