Union leader says he can't confirm rumors of new shift at GM Lordstown

General Motors announced it will stop production of the Cruze

LORDSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) - United Automobile Workers Local 1112 President Dave Green said Thursday that he cannot confirm any rumors of possible Saturday production at the plant.

General Motors announced last week that it will stop production of the Chevrolet Cruze at the Lordstown facility on March 1.

Still, local lawmakers and the union are trying to convince the company to bring a new product to the Lordstown plant so workers can keep their jobs.

As for Wednesday's meeting in Washington, D.C. with GM CEO Mary Barra, Green said union members appreciate the support from their elected candidates and would like to continue to be part of the General Motors family.
