MAHONING COUNTY, Ohio (WKBN) – The Ohio State Highway Patrol has identified the driver killed in the crash on the Ohio Turnpike in Mahoning County Sunday night.
Chonca Sanchez, 31, of Montgomery, Illinois, was the driver in a crash that happened around 10 p.m. on Interstate 76 at mile marker 237 in Springfield Twp., about three miles southeast of the I-680 interchange.
According to OSHP, the driver went off the left side of the road, tried to overcorrect and ended up rolling the vehicle he was driving back onto the road.
Sanchez was thrown onto the road and suffered a severe head injury. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Patrol.
Troopers said it was raining heavily at the time of the crash, which happened in a work zone. However, no workers were present at the time of the crash.
All lanes were closed and traffic was redirected while OSHP was on the scene Sunday night.
