(WKBN) – Trumbull County’s 68 foster families were thanked on Wednesday for their commitment.
Trumbull County Commissioners passed a resolution naming the month of May “Foster Care Month.”
The Children Services Board was also on hand for the presentation. Members say they currently have over 130 kids in foster care, and the main reason is the opioid epidemic.
One foster parent encourages others to step up and not be afraid to foster children.
“If an adoptive family is interested in your child that you just fostered, you’re going to have that relationship with them too. These kids don’t come in and just leave, you build these relationships, they become families,” said Desiree Brenner.
Foster Care Month is also a national event. This year’s theme is from the famous book by Dr. Seuss, “Oh, the Places You’ll Go.”
