WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – Long-time Trumbull County Commissioner Frank Fuda announced Monday that he will not be seeking re-election.

Fuda said that he is retiring at the end of the year and will serve out the remainder of his term. Sitting in his office Tuesday on the fifth floor of the County Administration Building, Fuda said the decision to retire was not easy.

“I really enjoy the job. It’s very demanding, though,” he said. “This job, you have to able to deal with people, to talk to people, to understand their problems.”

At the end of this year, Fuda will mark 64 years in the workforce. He started as a young teenager at Robbins Supermarket, then worked at Republic Steel through college, before becoming a teacher. He went on to serve for 16 years on Niles Council before he was elected county commissioner.

“I’ve always been dedicated to my job. This is serious business here. It’s not just to collect a paycheck and show up once in a while. It is serious business we are dealing with – 201,000 people and all the problems they have,” Fuda said.

Fuda believes his biggest accomplishments are the sanitary sewer projects completed during his four terms as commissioner. He feels he’s been able to keep the promises he made to the voters and said he will miss “the people.”
