YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Police are investigating a shooting that left one person dead and three people injured early Monday morning.
Police say that a 42-year-old male died after a shooting at the Valley View apartment complex on Tyrell Avenue. The Mahoning County Coroner’s Office identified him as Joseph Addison.
Police say that the other three victims — two male, one female — are in stable condition.
Police say that the shooting happened around 1:45 a.m. Officers received calls of gunfire then shortly after calls that people had been shot.
“Yeah, like 20 rounds just went off,” a caller told a dispatcher. “I’m inside my apartment.”
“Two mags were emptied, it sounded like,” another caller told dispatch. A third said, “It woke me and my fiancée up from a dead sleep.”
Officers arrived and found two men who had been shot. Police say that they were transferred to Mercy Health in Youngstown.
The 43-year-old victim died at the hospital and a 34-year-old man is in stable condition.
While officers were canvassing the scene and looking for evidence, they found a 21-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman who had also been shot. They were taken to the hospital and are in stable condition. None of the victims have been identified.
“My brother got shot in the leg, I need someone here ASAP,” a caller told dispatch.
Police haven’t released the names of the victims and so far and they have not arrested anyone. Police said all four of the shooting victims knew each other and multiple offenders were involved. Police don’t know if the incident was a shootout between both sides.
Detectives were back at the apartment complex Monday afternoon going through the security video from the apartments and parking lot.
Youngstown now has 29 homicides for 2021, one more than last year. That’s the most since 2007 when there were 39.
