POLAND TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – A bird was the cause of almost 2,000 power outages reported in the area Friday afternoon.

Over 1,700 people were without power in both Poland Township and Village, but power has since been restored, according to FirstEnergy.

There were some people stuck in an elevator at the Poland Library following the outage until crews were able to get them out.

Firefighters said the outage was caused by transformers exploding on the 1800 block of North Lima Road. A spokeswoman for FirstEnergy said a bird came in contact with the equipment.
