WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – Warren police have identified 37-year-old Brice Hilton of Farrell as the victim of the shooting that occurred Saturday night.

Caller: “It’s some guy. He’s in the road.”
Dispatcher: “He’s in the road? 1974 S. Feederle?”
Caller: “Yes. There’s a lady trying to do CPR. Yes. There is a lady trying to do CPR on him.”

Multiple people called 911 Saturday night just after 8 p.m. for reports of at least four gunshots near Colonial Street and S. Feederle Drive. When officers arrived on scene, they found Hilton with multiple gunshot wounds lying on the road. He was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.

“He came from Farrell, Pennsylvania, to purchase a cell phone… He set this up through a buy, sell and trade app,” said Warren Police Captain Robert Massucci.

According to Massucci, Hilton was purchasing the phone from a 17-year-old. The Warren Police Department announced on its Facebook page Sunday that investigators arrested the 17-year-old.

Police don’t believe Hilton showed any signs of threats during the transaction.

“He was basically backing out of the purchase of the cell phone because we don’t believe that there actually was a cellphone. When he retreated back to his car, that’s when he was shot,” Massucci said.

A similar incident occurred back on Nov. 11 when a teen from Cleveland came to Warren to sell his PlayStation. That incident is under investigation.

Police say the two incidents aren’t connected. However, officials say the circumstances are terrifying in both.

“These aren’t a gun went off during a robbery or what is sometimes referred to as a ‘robbery gone bad.’ These were executions,” said Traci Timko, assistant law director in Warren.

Timko and Massucci are warning residents against these types of sales.

“We would prefer that they refrain from it unless they know the individual personally or they have dealt with them in the past and they’ve had a good experience,” Massucci said.

They suggest if you have to do a transaction like this, to use the e-commerce parking spots that are located outside of the city of Warren’s municipal building.
