(WKBN) – Trumbull Career and Technical Center is eliminating its Air Force ROTC program.
Director Paula Baco said they will not accept incoming 11th graders into the program for the 2023-2024 school year.
Baco said a number of factors lead to the decision including the retirement of Lt. Col. John Miller, who’s been an instructor since the program started more than 20 years ago, changes to the Ohio Department of Education’s guidelines for career tech programs, and Air Force enrollment requirements. She says it was a very difficult decision to make.
“What the Air Force ROTC courses have in there are wonderful leadership opportunities for students, again, but it doesn’t line up with what the Ohio Department of Education is asking of us from a career-tech program workforce development program standpoint,” Baco said.
The program will end in May 2024, when the current junior class graduates.
