A steel coil dislodged from a truck and rolled over the passenger side of a cab driving on Interstate 80 westbound in Liberty Township.
Luckily, no one was injured.
It happened around 9 a.m. Thursday.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Leudes Batista, 42, of Marlborough, Massachusetts, was traveling westbound on I-80 in a 2007 Chevrolet Express cargo van, towing a trailer.
Brian Shaffer, 51, of Salem, was also westbound in a 2016 Freightliner conventional semi tractor-trailer.
Highway Patrol said Batista slowed for traffic, and Shaffer swerved to avoid Batista, traveling into the median.
A steel coil, weighing about 43,500 pounds, came loose from Shaffer’s trailer, striking Shaffer’s cab and then Batista’s trailer.
No injuries were reported.
Traffic was backed up for miles while crews brought in heavy machinery to lift and remove the steel coil.
Shaffer is charged with failing to maintain assured clear distance ahead.
