YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — The St. Vincent DePaul Society did its part Saturday to help children as they return to school.

The society held a sock and underwear giveaway at its pantry on East Wood Street in Youngstown. The undergarments were available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for children coming from families in need.

The supplies were available for students from preschool through 12th grade. Kids were also able to have food, drinks, toys and books.

Around 150 attended the giveaway, some coming as early as 9 a.m.

Drive chairperson Kathleen Rothman says the drive was meant to address an oft-forgotten need.

“So many places give out school supplies, but you forget children need fresh underwear and socks,” says Rothman. “It’s much needed and the people really appreciate it.”

Organizers said any leftover clothes will go to schools around the area.
