The investigation continues Tuesday night after a woman was killed while walking along Helsley Fusselman Road in Southington.
The accident happened east of Braceville Robinson Road just before 5 p.m. Monday. Someone driving along the road called 911 after discovering the scene.
Caller: “She’s in the grass.”
Dispatcher: “But she’s laying down?”
Caller: “She’s not, it’s not looking good at all.”
Investigators say 65-year-old Kathleen Westenfelder, of Southington, was walking west against traffic when she was hit by a pickup truck.
“There was no indication that he left the road and struck her. She wasn’t walking in the grass, I think she was walking right on the shoulder of the road when she was struck,” said Lt. Brian Vail, Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Westenfelder was taken to the hospital where she later died from her injuries.
The driver, 69-year-old William Dally, of Southington, stopped after the crash. He was not hurt and is cooperating with the investigation.
Troopers say Dally was under the influence of alcohol and prescription medication.
Investigators are awaiting the results of a blood test — they say they’ll be turning all the evidence they’ve collected in this case over to the prosecutor’s office, who will then determine whether or not charges will be filed.
