Arriving just before his hearing Wednesday, Robert Audia did his best to hide from cameras as he quickly walked into District Court in Grove City.
The former assistant sports information director at Grove City College is facing nearly 100 counts including invasion of privacy and child pornography.
Police say Audia was holding his cell phone inside athletic locker rooms last August. When students complained, police seized his phones. Court documents indicate investigators discovered dozens of videos and photos of students, many of them naked.
Two former Grove City College students, who didn’t want to be identified, watched Wednesday’s hearing and said they were shocked by the allegations.
Girl #1: “He spent a lot of time with the sports teams, just all of us. He really made a lot of personal connections with each of us.
Girl #2: “Everyone is not always who you think they are. It was just really, really shocking to hear.”
After the hearing, Audia practically ran to his car and quickly left. The girls say they came thinking the defendant might explain himself but he never did.
Girl #1: “I just wanted to know what his thoughts were. Why he thought that it was okay to do what he did.”
The girls credit college administrators for firing Audia soon after the complaints surfaced but admit the situation leaves them wondering how much they can trust others.
Girl #2: “It makes you think twice about who you’re around, watching your surroundings. It’s just unsettling.”
Audia is due back in court again in August.
