Sheriff’s office will help patrol waters of Lake Milton again this summer

Local News

You will once again notice local law enforcement patrolling waterways in the area this summer.

The Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office recently received a grant of about $25,000 from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Watercraft to help cover the costs of maintaining its marine patrol unit.

The state also provides the boat deputies use to keep an eye on both the Berlin Reservoir and Lake Milton.

“Last year was the first year and it’s going to continue, that we will also be at Lake Milton,” Sheriff Jerry Greene said. “It’s extremely helpful. It gives us and enables us to have pretty good coverage out there during the summer months.”

To obtain the grant, the sheriff provides about $9,000 from his own budget as a matching share.

A dozen deputies, who are trained in watercraft safety, are assigned to the marine unit.
