YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Leaders with the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley recognized volunteers at a luncheon on Friday for their dedication to the organization and community.
Dozens of volunteers and first responders in Youngstown were treated to the barbeque lunch. Directors say they have more than 800 active volunteers, handling just about everything from food preparation to clerical work.
Volunteer coordinator Robbie Jones says many of them come from local churches in the area.
“But in addition to that, we have volunteers from every walk of life coming in. We have volunteers who used to be clients who came back years later, who want to come back to an organization that helped them in their time of need,” says Jones.
Last year, the mission served more than 1,600 individual clients. They say 200 of the clients were under the age of 17.
