Rape charges dismissed against Austintown man, police still investigating

Local News

Charges have been dismissed against a man from Austintown, who was accused of rape on Monday, but police say they plan on refiling those charges.

A 29-year-old woman said Stephen Hogan raped her while she was visiting another man at a house on N. Navarre Ave.

The woman told police that she went to a house on N. Navarre Ave. to give her friend a ride to Walmart. She said when she got to the house, her friend was asleep on the couch and couldn’t be awakened.

The woman said Hogan, who she didn’t know, raped her.

The woman said she called her boyfriend from the suspect’s phone but didn’t tell him she was assaulted because she was afraid, the report stated.

The woman left the house and went to her boyfriend’s home, where police were called.

Officers questioned Hogan at the house on N. Navarre where he told them his sexual contact with the victim was consensual, according to the police report.

Hogan was arrested and booked into the Mahoning County Jail on rape charges, but the charges were dismissed on Wednesday.

Austintown Detective Sgt. Jordan Yacovone said police are waiting for the results of a rape kit, so they needed more time to present their case against Hogan. He anticipates that those charges will be refiled.
