Popped tire forced tanker off Route 11 and down embankment in Canfield

Local News

CANFIELD TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – A tanker truck went off Route 11 and down an embankment in Canfield, blocking the road below. The tanker’s driver and the driver of a car were taken to the hospital.

It happened just after 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the tanker, which was empty, was in the right lane of Route 11 northbound and a 2017 Chrysler 200 was in the left northbound lane.

One of the tanker’s tires blew out, so the truck went into the left lane and hit the car.

Both vehicles went into the median. The car flipped over and the tanker continued down an embankment onto Shields Road between Raccoon and Herbert roads. It took out a guardrail.

The man driving the tanker and the woman driving the car were both hurt, but not seriously. Both of them were wearing their seat belts, troopers said.

Shields Road and one northbound lane of Route 11 were closed for a few hours but are now open again.
