Police say man tried to light Youngstown apartment on fire

Tyrell Avenue apartment attempted arson Youngstown

Police are investigating an attempted arson at an apartment in Youngstown.

It happened in the 2400 block of Tyrell Avenue just before 10 p.m. Monday, according to a police report. 

Police said a 22-year-old man was accused of breaking the windows of an apartment where the mother of his child lives. After breaking the window, he tried to set the apartment on fire with lighter fluid, police said.

No one was home at the time.

Police said the entire incident was captured on video.

Firefighters reported finding a lighter fluid bottle, water bottle and cigarette lighter. Firefighters also reported smelling the lighter fluid in the building. 

Wooden boards now cover some of the basement windows that were kicked in. 

No arrests have been made yet.
