Jo Ellen Paris, charged with shooting a man in Youngstown

Youngstown police say a woman shot her boyfriend in the leg after she learned he had been cheating on her.

JoEllen Paris was arrested and charged with felonious assault after the shooting on Tyrell Avenue on Wednesday morning.

Police said Paris initially lied about what happened, saying two men in ski masks shot her boyfriend, Braylon Burns, while he was taking out the trash.

Officers began to question Paris, who changed her story about what happened several times, according to a police report.

Police noted there was a spent shell casing on the living room floor and a large amount of blood near where Burns had been lying. No blood was found outside of the apartment, according to the report.

Police said a handgun was found between the mattress and the box spring where Paris’s young child was sleeping.

Burns, who was taken to the hospital, told police Paris shot him in the leg after learning he was cheating with another woman, according to the report.

Police said Paris eventually admitted to shooting Burns after an argument.

She appeared in Youngstown Municipal Court on Friday afternoon and her bond was set at $15,000.
