An Uber driver was arrested on Tuesday morning after Austintown police say he was driving drunk with a passenger.

Police stopped the driver, Craig Wistar, at the intersection of State Route 46 and Interstate Boulevard. Police noted in their report that the Honda Civic was sitting eastbound in the westbound lane of Interstate Boulevard.

According to the report, Wistar smelled of alcohol. The passenger in the back seat mouthed the words, “Help me” to the officer, the report stated.

The passenger, police noted, smelled of alcohol as well but appeared to be sober.

Police reported finding a bottle of vodka near Wistar’s feet and noted that he urinated on himself.

Wistar admitted to being intoxicated, saying, “I’m plastered. I’m talking hammered,” according to the report.

He was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, OVI-refusal, as well as red light and left of center violations.

The passenger told police that she contacted Uber for a ride home and was extremely alarmed when the driver sat in the middle of the intersection after picking her up.

She was given a ride home by police.

WKBN reached out to Uber for comment but hasn’t yet heard back from a company spokesperson.
