GIRARD, Ohio (WKBN) – Police say a 4-year-old girl was found wandering around Girard on Sunday, wearing only a t-shirt in the cold rain.
The girl was found in the 200 block of E. Second Street by a woman and her husband, who wrapped the child in a blanket and called police.
Police said it was 45 degrees at the time, and the girl was visibly shaking. The child smelled heavily of urine and did not appear to want to go home, according to a police report.
Police said the child lived nearby and appeared to have gotten out from a sliding glass door.
An officer noted in his report that he spoke with the girl’s stepfather, who didn’t seem interested in how the girl got out and commented that he just woke up, asking if he could get his cigarettes.
Police advised the girl’s mother and stepfather that they needed to be more careful or they’d face criminal charges.
A report was also sent to Children Services regarding the incident.
