Ivring Wilkerson, charged with robbery in Austintown

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Austintown police say they arrested a suspect after a chase down Interstate 680 on Tuesday morning.

Officers responded to a call at the T/A Travel Center in Austintown to investigate a reported robbery.

According to a police report, two men entered the T/A Travel Center around 4:25 a.m., made a phone call and browsed the store. Soon after, police said one of the suspects approached the counter and demanded money from the register, while insinuating he had a gun in the pocket of his sweatshirt.

The suspect was denied any money, but according to a police report, the two men took garbage bags full of unknown merchandise and promptly ran from the store.

Police spotted the suspect’s vehicle going southbound on I-680, and they attempted to make a traffic stop but said the vehicle kept driving.

The pursuit continued southbound until the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a barrier near the Oakwood entrance ramp, according to the police report. Police said the two passengers in the car jumped out and ran away with the trash bags full of merchandise.

Police ordered the driver out by gunpoint. The driver, identified as Irving Wilkerson, was arrested on charges of failure to comply and complicity to aggravated robbery charges.

Police noted in their report that a bag of Skittles, Chips Ahoy and Stacker 2 fat burners were found in the vehicle.

A front-seat passenger was also taken into custody, but it doesn’t appear that charges were immediately filed against him.
