The New Castle City Police Department made an arrest in two recent burglary cases in the city.

Early Monday morning, officers were sent to the Last Minit Mart on Wilmington Avenue for a burglary alarm.

Officers found that someone entered the business through the roof, and there was blood in the store. Surveillance video showed a man stealing cigarettes after attempting to break into the cash register. He tried to leave through a glass door but was unable to break it, so he left back through the ceiling.

Police said they were able to identify the suspect as 28-year-old Shawn T. Jones. Police said he was found with the stolen cigarettes and the clothing worn during the burglary. They said he also had injuries from the break-in.

He was arrested and charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft and criminal mischief.

Police said during an interview, he also admitted to a burglary on Vine Street on June 5.
