LIBERTY TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – Two women are charged with child endangering after police said a 1-year-old child was found alone on the balcony of a dirty hotel room in Liberty.
An officer spotted the child around 3:25 p.m. Thursday on the balcony of a hotel on Motor Inn Drive. Police said the child was wearing only a diaper and appeared to be malnourished.
The officer was worried about the child falling through the large gaps in the railing of the balcony, according to a police report.
Police said while the officer was speaking to the child, 47-year-old Laura Moncrief walked up and told the child, “Get your a** back over there.”
The officer reported asking for Moncrief’s identification and she replied,”I ain’t did nothing,” and, “I’m not giving nobody my information.”
Police said both Moncrief and the child’s mother, 29-year-old Brittany Jackson, claimed the other should have been watching the child. Police said while questioning the two, another child walked out of the hotel room.
Police said the hotel room smelled of feces, and there was no food inside, besides spoiled milk.
Moncrief had a bag containing crack cocaine, according to a police report. She told police that she picked the bag up from the stairs, according to the report.
Children Services was called to take emergency custody of the children.
Police arrested the women and took them to Trumbull County Jail.
While they’re each charged with child endangering, Moncrief is also charged with resisting arrest, failure to disclose personal information and obstructing official business.
