Pigs die in Weathersfield Township barn fire

WEATHERSFIELD TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – Two pigs and 12 piglets died in a barn fire in Weathersfield Township on Tuesday morning, according to firefighters.

It happened just after 10:07 a.m. at W. Liberty Street and Welsh Hill Road.

One of the pigs that died was used for 4H.

Firefighter were able to quickly contain the fire, and no injuries were reported.

The Austintown and McDonald fire departments assisted, and Life Trans EMS was also called to the scene.

The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined yet, but the State Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate.

The owner estimates more than $10,000 in damages, including to the building, hogs and the animals’ feed.
