YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The people of Youngstown know a thing or two about losing a cathedral to fire.

Sixty-five years ago, the old St. Columba Cathedral was destroyed and a new one had to be built.

The St. Columba Cathedral that now sits on Wood Street near downtown Youngstown opened in 1958.

It replaced the old St. Columba Cathedral that opened in 1903 and caught fire on Sept. 2, 1954.
