SHARON, Pa. (WKBN) – A local college opened its doors to celebrate the Earth on Saturday.
Kids and parents gathered at Penn State Shenango for the annual Earth Fest.
It was free for anyone in the community.
The day started out with the beating of drums in Sharon Hall. There was live entertainment, eco-friendly crafts and ice cream.
There was also an exhibition of upcycled artwork created by local K-6 students.
Organizers said it was a good event to get people thinking about the environment.
“It’s an opportunity to certainly educate kids but also adults and let people know about the resources that are available in the community, in case they want to get involved in making their community more sustainable,” said Tony Paglia, an Earth Fest Committee co-chair.
The OH WOW! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science & Technology had a “Habitat Room” there, too.
Kids could complete crafts and activities in which they learned about coral reefs.
The day was sponsored by WKBN and Fox TV.
