YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Family and police have identified the victim of the Sunday shooting outside of O’Donald’s.

They identified the victim as Yarnell Green, 32, who was involved in the court case of the suspects in the Rowan Sweeney case.

Green was shot and killed about 1:40 a.m. Sunday at West Federal and Hazel Streets. Family members say he went to the bar after work. He was coming out of the bar when he was shot, they said.

Monday afternoon, police sent a release stating they made an arrest in the shooting.

Johnny Serrano, 23, has been arrested and charged with murder. The release states that there are also other parties involved.

Green was a father of three, two nine-year-old daughters and a four-year-old son.

He was the boyfriend of the mother of Rowan Sweeney, 4, who was shot and killed in September 2020 during a robbery at the home of his mother on Perry Street in Struthers.

Green was wounded in the same robbery as was Sweeney’s mother and one of the suspects.

Two people are in custody for Sweeney’s murder and the shooting of the others. Another person who was wounded in the same shooting is also wanted but is not yet in custody. Trial dates have yet to be set.

Lt. Mohammad Awad of the Detective Bureau said Green and others were arguing inside O’Donold’s bar and were kicked out. When they got outside, Green was shot.

Police then found Green with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to Mercy Health where he was pronounced dead.

Police found a gun on the scene but would not comment on if the gun was the murder weapon. They also found eight shell casings near Green’s body.

The shooter ran away. Several police departments helped city police with crowd control.

Police are still interviewing witnesses and some are cooperating but others are not.

This is the 17th homicide in the city this year. Last year at this time Youngstown had 23 homicides and 31 for the year.

YPD and the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office are still investigating the shooting.

YPD is also asking for information about the shooting. Those who know anything can call Crime Stoppers at 330-746-CLUE or 330-746-8YPD. All tips can be anonymous.
