YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — A man shot and killed late Thursday across from a south side bar died just feet away from where another man was shot and killed in November.

Police and the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office have yet to release the name of the victim, who is the city’s third victim of the year and first since Jan. 2.

A man showed up at St. Elizabeth Health Center shortly after police were called about 11:55 p.m. Thursday for gunfire at South and East Lucius avenues. Police believe he was shot with the man who died.

The intersection is the site of the Coconut Grove bar and the former Isaly’s Busy Bee diner, which has seen its share of gunfire and homicide victims over the years.

About 2 a.m. Nov. 19, police found Marquis Bebbs, 35, shot to death on the sidewalk next to the diner across the street from the bar. A couple of days later, a murder warrant was issued for Abdul Muhammad, 29, for Bebbs’ death, but he has yet to be picked up. Police believe he fled town shortly after Bebbs was killed.

Detectives said Bebbs was killed after he and Muhammad argued inside the bar.

Chief of Detectives Capt. Rod Foley did not say if the man who was killed was in the bar before the shooting, but he did say the bar was open when he was killed.

Police placed several evidence markers across the street from where the victim’s body was found, just in the parking lot of the diner. That is less than 10 feet away and slightly east of where Bebbs was found when he was killed.

The area has seen its share of violence. In June 2011, a man was murdered in the parking lot of the bar, and in 2006, a man was found shot to death in the parking lot of the diner. Neither of those cases has been solved.

At this point in 2020, Youngstown had seven homicides on its way to 28 overall. Also at this point in 2020, the city had seen 12 people shot as opposed to 10 so far this year. A total of 98 people were shot in the city in 2020, 27 of them fatally.
