(WKBN) – The Ohio treasurer is trying to innovate private solutions to real-world problems.
Robert Sprague was a guest speaker at Thursday’s Lattes and Legislators event.
He’s trying to encourage investment into new solutions for the state’s opioid crisis.
Because this week is Ohio’s In-Demand Jobs Week, Sprague also talked about the need for workforce training. Some fields are struggling to find workers and have more jobs than the number of people being able to handle them.
Sprague believes students need to know financial literacy and how it applies to workforce development.
“We think there’s a financial literacy component to that. We need to educate kids not just how to avoid college student loan debt but also as to what the future job market is going to demand,” he said.
Sprague believes more financial literacy programs could teach students how to avoid college loan debt and find jobs immediately in skilled labor.
