Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced an appointment to the Financial Planning and Supervision Commission for Niles City Schools.
Father John-Michael Lavelle, pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Niles, will serve on the committee, according to DeWine.
He’s the first of five people to be appointed to oversee the school district, which in February was placed under fiscal emergency.
The other four members haven’t yet been publicly announced.
In February, Superintendent Ann Marie Thigpen blamed the designation on a failure to pass several levies. She said the district has worked to cut costs by eliminating positions and implementing pay-to-participate programs.
