LEAVITTSBURG (WKBN) – A corrections officer was taken to the hospital after she was assaulted by an inmate at the Trumbull Correctional Institution.

A spokesperson with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction told First News the assault happened Sunday night.

The corrections officer was admitted to the hospital but has since been released.

Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating.
