Local News

A family on vacation is coming home Tuesday to find their house extensively damaged by fire.

Crews responded about 5:45 a.m. to a house fire in the 300 block of W. Park Avenue. A person passing by reported the fire.

Crews on the scene said the fire crawled up the walls to the roof. Flames were coming from underneath the roof when firefighters got there.

It took firefighters about two hours to put it out.

No one was home at the time of the fire. Crews on the scene said the family that lives there was on vacation and was coming home.

West Park Avenue was closed for a few hours as crews addressed the fire.

Niles Fire Lt. Mike Hudzik said the fire likely started in the walls of the house, although the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The house was extensively damaged, so the family will be unable to live there.
