BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – Three months after the ribbon-cutting for the DeBartolo Commons at the Southern Park Mall, the three featured businesses have now opened as well. On Friday, we took a look inside two of them as we hit balls at The Bunker and had dinner at Double Bogey’s Bar and Grill.

Masury’s Matt Smoot spent part of his afternoon hitting balls on a simulated driving range at The Bunker, now open at the Southern Park Mall’s DeBartolo Commons.

“A lot of people here, they’re not as big of golfers as I am but it’s fun for everybody because you don’t have to be a golfer,” he said.

“We have 10 overhead simulator bays throughout the place in total,” said Jonah Karzmer, owner of The Bunker.

Karzmer says it’s $50 an hour to rent a bay. There are also games for non-golfers and kids.

“You got guys playing Oakmont and you got kids kicking soccer balls and knocking down pins. So there really is something for everyone,” Karzmer said.

Part of The Bunker is the restaurant Double Bogey’s — the same people who run Bogey’s Bar and Grill north of Lowellville.

“It’s very similar. We still have all the original staples from the first store and some newer, trendy, cutting-edge stuff, [like the famous Bogey’s hamburger],” said Melvin McKee, owner of Double Bogey’s.

One of the first people in the door was Boardman Township Administrator Jason Loree. He ordered the fish dinner.

“Entertainment and quality entertainment is important for keeping your community vibrant and that’s what we got with this project. This has just been great and I’m out here supporting The Bunker and all the crew here,” Loree said.

Retired developer Andy Profanchik also brought some of his family for something to eat.

“I think that it’s going to engage the young people. I think it’s going to give them the opportunity to be involved in the community and visit their friends. It’s a great, big establishment. There’s a lot of amenities here,” Profanchik said.

Right next door — also part of the DeBartolo Commons — is Steel Valley Brew Works. It too is now open but it’s just a soft opening. We talked with the owner, Joshua Langenheim, who said to give him a couple of weeks and we can come check his place out, too.
