New medical center opens in East Liverpool

Local News

The new Community Action Agency Medical Center officially opened its doors to the public in East Liverpool on Friday.

The facility is a one-stop shop for nearly all health needs, and it is being called a model for health care in other small communities.

Patients say the convenience will keep them coming back to the center.

“Almost any test you want done there, you can see a doctor virtually any time. Walk-ins are available,” says patient Sunny Hall.

Hall says he cannot wait for the pharmacy to open.

“You’ll be able to see the doctor or the dentist and pick up your prescription on the way out,” he says.

He says the only way it would be more convenient is if Community Action had a location near his home in East Palestine.

CEO Tom Anderson says their mission is to expand health care.

“We were created to give people access to good health care that don’t have it,” Anderson says.

The program helps connect people in rural areas with quality health care. The new building offers dental services, mental health and primary care doctors.

“We are a federally funded program, but we do take regular insurance and we serve Medicaid so we can serve those people who don’t have a good provider,” Anderson says.

The clinic also helps people who do not have any insurance at all.

This new building is the result of a $1 million federal grant along with another $1 million from local funding.

“This is an example of federal, state and local agencies coming together, working together to make something happen. I absolutely think that this is a model that could work in other places,” says Congressman Bill Johnson.
