A man from New Castle is facing charges after police say he reached for a gun in his waistband as they were arresting him.
According to a police report, officers were called Thursday at about 10:45 p.m. to I-376 in Pulaski Township on reports of a man, later identified as 26-year-old Tyree Sanders, walking in the middle of the highway and blocking traffic.
When officers arrived, they tried to restrain Sanders but he tried to pull away and repeatedly try to reach for an object in his waistband that officers later found out was a gun, the report stated.
Officers say they recovered a .45 caliber pistol from Sanders’ waistband. The pistol was reported stolen out of Crawford County.
Sanders was charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, receiving stolen property, and a firearm violation.
Sanders is being held on a $100,000 bond. His next scheduled court date is Oct. 25.
