Neighboring houses caught fire in Youngstown on Thursday afternoon, leaving two families without a place to stay.
Firefighters were called out to 311 Alexander Street around 2 p.m.
By the time crews got there, the fire had extended over to the house next door.
Youngstown Battalion Chief John Lightly said the homeowner at the first house wasn’t home at the time, but the neighboring family was there.
He said they were able to salvage some things from the second house, but they won’t be able to stay there tonight.
“Crews have done a tremendous job putting out both structures,” Lightly said. “Difficult access, wind, tall houses with very little range of motion for our ladder trucks — crews have done a great job.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
