EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio (WKBN) – East Liverpool police were able to find the mother of a child who they said was found wandering alone.

Chief John Lane said a couple found the little boy wandering along the sidewalk in the 500 block of College Street in a diaper and called police.

The child was taken back to the police station. Officers said the boy can talk, but could not tell them where he lived.

“This is probably our fourth one this year, kid walking out,” Lane said. “Not this particular kid, but different families. This is more common than you think.”

Police said the mother of the child, 25-year old Alexis Burkett, came to the station after officers posted a picture of him on their Facebook page.

Burkett told police she was taking a nap at home with the boy around 10 a.m. after taking another son to school. She said she woke up after a friend knocked at the door, saying her son was at the police station.

According to the report, the mother said she worked until 2 a.m.

Burkett is facing a charge of child endangerment. Police also reported it to Children Services.
