J.P. Morgan was sworn in as Mahoning County’s newest judge on Monday inside the rotunda of the Mahoning County Courthouse.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine chose Morgan to fill the seat left vacant by Judge David D’Apolito. D’Apolito was elected to the 7th District Court of Appeals in November.

Morgan said he was happy to share this moment with close family and friends. He also discussed what he hopes to accomplish.

“I think it’s what any judge would hope for, and that’s just that you act with integrity. You have a court that people can be proud of, that they know that they are going to go in there and get a fair shake and that the law is going to be upheld,” Morgan said.

Morgan assumes office on Monday. He must run in the November 2020 election to retain the position for the remainder of the term.
