MINERAL RIDGE, Ohio (WKBN) – Prom night can be an exciting experience for all students, but for one Mineral Ridge senior, it will be a night that she will never forget.

There was loud applause and smiles all around when Taylor Thomas was crowned prom queen.

Taylor was born with Down syndrome. Her parents and family were in the crowd with tears in their eyes as they watched the special moment.

“I kind of went numb there for a second, and it was unbelievable,” said Tracy Thomas, Taylor’s mom.

Taylor’s classmates voted her to be queen, which was a memory that will last a lifetime.

“Yes, they called my name. Yes, I’m so happy to be prom queen,” Taylor said.

Her parents said this act of kindness speaks volumes about the Mineral Ridge students and faculty.

“I’m so proud of these kids. They have treated her with respect and love and they have taken her under their wing, and they helped her and they just love her to death. It just warms my heart to know that they did that,” Tracy said.

As classmates, family and friends greeted her with congratulations, Taylor smiled from ear to ear.
With the crown on her head and roses in hand, she was off to dance the night away.

Taylor and her parents said this is something they will be talking about for a very long time.
