Mercer County set to do dog license checks

Officials in Mercer County want to make sure you have your pet registered. 

Dog wardens will be canvassing homes and checking to make sure all dogs are licensed. 

The checks will be conducted once a week beginning April 10. 

All dogs three months or older must be licensed by January 1 of each year and are only licensed for the calendar year, not from the time of purchase. 

The fee for a dog license is $6.50 for each spayed or neutered dog and $8.50 for other dogs. Older adults and those with disabilities can buy a license for $4.50 for spayed and neutered dogs and $6.50 for others. 

Also, all dogs and cats must be vaccinated against rabies. 

Violaters will be cited with a maximum fine of $300 per violation.
