YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Hundreds of young men gathered at the Covelli Centre for the My Brother’s Keeper conference. The older men, the role models, the teachers and the mentors, they had a message for these kids.

“Resist the seduction to be mediocre. There’s incredible opportunities and incredible potential within you,” said Wilson Okello, professor at Miami University.

“Impossible is nothing, all you gotta do is put your mind to it. Respect the people around you, because God will put some people in your life that will help you get to that next level,” said Sean Robinson of Meridian Healthcare.

“It’s all about who you are as a person, no matter where you grew up. Even if you didn’t have examples, it’s a choice, it’s a decision,” said Kendall Johnson, motivational speaker.

“Develop yourselves, develop your mind brothers, move with power, because anything else is unacceptable,” said Carlos Christian, one of the featured speakers.

“All it takes is us coming together,” said Guy Burne, director of the Community Innitiative to Reduce Violence.
