A 19-year-old man will spend 18 years to life in prison for a murder he committed as a young teenager.
Police said Braquan Walker was just 16 when he shot and killed 18-year-old Jarell Brown in 2015.
Brown’s body was found near the corner of Market Street and Indianola Avenue.
Walker was arrested in 2015, along with 15-year-old James Johnson.
Police said at the time that they believed Brown was killed because of a disagreement over a crime the three had committed in the past that led to them being arrested.
Walker pleaded guilty to a murder charge in the case and apologized in court before his sentencing.
“I’d like to say to the family, there’s nothing I can say or do to reduce the pain, and I’m sorry that they had to do this,” he said. “To my family, I love them and I’m going to do everything that I can do to come home.”
