YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A 29-year-old man has died after a shooting early Wednesday morning at a Youngstown gas station.

It happened around 3 a.m. at the Shell gas station on South Avenue near Interstate 680.

Police say they found a white Lincoln SUV with bullet holes in it and the victim on the ground next to it. The man had been shot multiple times. Police say the victim was targeted.

“We don’t know exactly what led up to this, but it appears that the suspect circled around, confirmed the victim was the driver of the vehicle, and he circled back, and that’s when he shot him,” said Lieutenant Mohammad Awad, with the Youngstown Police Department.

Crews took the victim to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Lt. Awad said there was a passenger in the vehicle at the time, but that person was not hurt.

Police said they talked to witnesses on the scene, but no one has been arrested. Witnesses told police they saw a suspect run off on foot.

“He appears to run northbound from that gas station. He most likely jumped into a vehicle and fled from there. We’re canvassing the neighborhoods, checking different cameras to see what vehicle he jumped into and where they fled,” Awad said.

No arrests have been made yet, and the victim’s identity hasn’t been released.
