A man and woman trapped in mud and silt were pulled out by emergency crews late Wednesday night.
A man was trapped up to his knees and a woman up to her waist in mud along Phelps Creek in Ashtabula County.
The couple was discovered down a 40-foot embankment.
According to the Windsor Fire Department, it took about an hour to rescue them.
One victim was flown by medical helicopter to the hospital and was suffering from hypothermia. The other victim was taken by ambulance.
It’s unclear what led the couple to the mud pit.
Several local departments assisted in the rescue including Orwell, Middlefield, and the South Central Ambulance District (SCAD).
