The Mahoning County Republican Party has a new chairman.

Tom McCabe was the clear winner as he was the only one who applied for the position.

He replaces Mark Munroe, who announced his retirement from the chair last month.

Munroe says nothing lasts forever and sometimes change is good.

“I am so excited about Tom McCabe taking over as chairman because he brings a different set of skills and talents than I did to the chairmanship,” he said.

“Mark has laid some great groundwork when it comes to raising money and building a donor base. He’s done a great job with building a volunteer base. He’s had some success and I think we need to build on what he’s done and continue that progress,” McCabe said.

McCabe appointed Tom Costello as his vice chair.

Munroe says he’ll still be involved in the party and is already part of one of their committees.
