EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio (WKBN) – A man who died in a fire in East Liverpool has been identified.
The Columbiana County Coroner confirmed that James E. Stanley, 83, died in the fire.
The fire happened Monday morning on Riley Avenue. The call came in at about 4:45 a.m., and the house was fully engulfed when crews arrived.
Neighbors told firefighters there was a man still inside the house and rescue attempts were made.
“We had a crew attempt to rescue the gentleman, but the house started collapsing around them so they had to exit out of the structure,” said East Liverpool Fire Chief William Jones.
Jones said there is so much damage that equipment was brought in to remove the chimney and make the scene safe so they could remove the body.
The coroner’s office said that a vacant house was lost and that another house was damaged.
