COLUMBIANA, Ohio (WKBN) – Firestone Park hosted its Bark in the Park on Saturday afternoon.

Dozens of families and their dogs turned out for the event, which was in collaboration with Columbiana’s Beauty and Restoration Committee.

Local pet-friendly vendors and charities were present ahead of the park’s official opening date.

“We tend to ignore the fact that humans like to interact with other dog people and other humans and other dogs as well, so for socialization it’s definitely a benefit for both species,” said Mary Ann Green with the Firestone Dog Park Committee.

The Firestone Dog Park committee is working to make the dog park more accessible, including adding disability-friendly benches.

Committee members hope the park will be open by fall.
